World Meningitis Day 2023

World Meningitis Day 2023: a CSRS team gets involved.

World Meningitis Day took place on 05 October 2023.
Following the example of several organisations fighting meningitis around the world, Dr Diallo's team at the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d'Ivoire (CSRS) also carried out a number of activities to raise awareness among Africans in general and Ivorians in particular.

Awareness-raising began on 07 September 2023 with Dr Diallo Kanny's participation in the "Allume la télé" programme on Côte d'Ivoire's RTI1 radio and television network, on the theme of "La méningite en question" (meningitis in question). During her exchanges with the presenter, Fathim Kamara, she had the opportunity to share crucial information about meningitis, such as a description of the symptoms, the means of transmission, treatment and prevention. Videos from this TV appearance have been shared on the team's social networks  (cliquez pour voir la vidéo). .

October 05 was marked by the "Light The Road Ahead" action, initiated by the Confederation of Meningitis Organisations(CoMO), of which the CSRS meningitis research team is a member. The idea was to light a light source and share a photo of it on social networks at 8.30pm sharp, accompanied by a text, while passing the flame on to another organisation tagged in the post. The CSRS team passed the flame to PAMAH FONDATION, Inc and the Emily's Dash Foundation in the USA.

As the icing on the cake, the first episode of the cartoon ''Kolo et la méningite'', funded by the MEVacP project and produced by WIESF- HS- PRODUCTION, a didactic communication tool on meningitis adapted to African contexts, was broadcast to around 10,000 RTI viewers during the ''Allume la télé'' programme. This programme was published on social networks) in order to reach as many internet users as possible.  (le dessin animé sur la RTI1)

The CSRS meningitis research team has been involved in raising awareness of meningitis in Côte d'Ivoire for 03 years now, and has no intention of stopping there. It intends to persevere with its meningitis-related research work (molecular epidemiology, diagnostics, climate impact, etc.) and to step up its awareness-raising activities in order to achieve the goal set by the World Health Organisation (WHO) of eradicating meningitis worldwide by 2030.
