Meningitis and Cerebral Palsy: a step towards inclusion

The Association pour la Réinsertion des Enfants pour une Éducation Adaptée (AREEA)_ LA PAGE BLANCHE organised an open day on Tuesday 29 October 2024.  To mark International Cerebral Palsy Day.

Dr Kanny Diallo, head of the meningitis research group at the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d'Ivoire (CSRS), was invited to attend. The event was attended by a wide range of guests involved in the care of children with cerebral palsy or other mental difficulties.
The event began with a guided tour of the various facilities run by the NGO La Page Blanche. These facilities are used for the rehabilitation and integration of children with cerebral and motor disorders.
These are :
- The computer room
- The vocational training workshop
- The baking and cooking workshop
- Autonomy and activities of daily living workshop
- The academic skills development workshop
- The multi-sensory room
The aim of this visit was to show the support these children receive at all levels.

Cerebral palsy: a step towards inclusion’ was the theme of the      conference led by the directors of La Page Blanche.
The aim was to present the warning signs of the disease, identify all  the different forms of cerebral palsy and their means of transmission.  These include meningitis.

“It's reassuring to know that there are structures that offer support options to families. This kind of awareness-raising is very important to prevent these diseases. Because we can't protect ourselves against what we don't know.”  Dr Kanny Diallo

The day ended with the sale of items made by the children and a family photo.
AREEA was set up in 1991 to help children with psychological and motor disorders.
