Researchers from the MEVacP project present for the 13th Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) Conference 2021

The thirteenth Meningitis Research Foundation Conference will be held online from 1st to 3rd of November 2021. It will bring together world-leading experts discussing latest advances and today's challenges for meningitis and septicemia.

Many members of the MEVACP project team will attend this conference and Dr Diallo Kanny from the Centre Suisse de Recherche Scientifique en Côte d’Ivoire (CSRS) and Dr Odile Harrison from the University of Oxford will be presenting posters on behalf of the group in the afternoon session of Tuesday November 2nd, 2021.

Dr Diallo will present a poster entitled “In silico evaluation of current PCR diagnostic targets evaluation of current PCR diagnostic targets for the molecular detection of bacterial meningitis” in the Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment track.

Dr Harrison will present a poster entitled “MEVacP: a public engagement website about meningitis and vaccine policy” in the Surveillance, Support and Advocacy track. Dr Harrison will also be giving a talk on Group B Streptococci “Hypervirulence and Group B Streptococcal Infection” where she will be discussing how genome sequence data can be used to improve our understanding of the population biology of this bacterium.

Both posters have been selected for a 5 min poster talks. Their presentations are aligned with the new WHO Global Roadmap to Defeat Meningitis by 2030 as they focus on two of its pillars : improvement of diagnostic tests and public engagement for increase awareness on meningitis.  

“One of the public health goals set by the WHO is to defeat meningitis by 2030. Raising awareness on meningitis is key to helping achieve this. It is in this context that we are developing a bilingual website which we want to become a repository of public engagement tools and relevant information on meningitis for the African public, heath practitioners, researchers and policy makers”, says Dr Kanny Diallo, MEVacP local Principal Investigator at Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d’Ivoire.
